Should I just give up on him?

i met this guy on myspace january 5th and he's friends with my friend. we talked on aim for days then we finally met each other and it was fun. so i find out he likes me and i really like him too. we hang out again and then he asks me to chill on valentines day. we didn't end up hanging out on valentines day but we're still talking a lot. and then all the sudden our conversations are short and he gives me texts that are just short and to the point. i finally decide to give up on him. and then other week or two i was downtown with my friend at a coffee shop and he came around the corner so we were just staring at each other for like 3 seconds. so i finally got up and hugged him and we talked for awhile til he left. so i tryed iming him after that and the conversation still was small. so i go to give up on him again and tell his bff i still like him so of course his bff tells him since they live together and he ims me and we talk a lottt and he's cute like he usually is.
